Man dies in Leander following motorcycle crash

LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — A fatal crash in Leander closed a roadway overnight, according to police.

The Leander Police Department said Municipal Drive from Northern Trail to Southwest Drive has since reopened.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight, according to LPD.

A spokesperson for the city said the crash involved a single motorcycle driven by a man.

“The motorcycle went off the road into the woods and the rider was ejected,” the city said.

According to city officials, the man was dead when officers arrived. The rider’s age or where he was from is currently unknown.

Users will be able to get the first taste of Apple Intelligence as Apple has started to make some of the features of its AI suite available with the iOS 18.1 developer beta released Monday. The company launched Apple Intelligence at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June. Apple's own news release in June mentioned that users with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with M1 would later be able to try out Apple Intelligence features in beta if their device language is set to U.S. English.

The U.S. Commerce Department today issued a report in support of "open-weight" generative AI models like Meta's Llama 3.1, but recommended the government develop "new capabilities" to monitor these models for potential risks. The report, authored by the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), finds that open-weight models broaden generative AI's availability to small companies, researchers, nonprofits and individual developers. For these reasons, the government shouldn't place restrictions on access to open models, the report suggests -- at least not before investigating whether restrictions might harm the market.
