Authorities ID man who died in Rutland jet ski accident

A 46-year-old Attleborough man died Saturday after his jet ski overturned in Turkey Hill Pond in Rutland, the Police Department said in a press release.

Rutland police and firefighters went to the pond shortly before 4:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a man who had been operating a jet ski had disappeared under the water after appearing to be in distress.

With help from other local fire departments as well as the Massachusetts State Police and Environmental Police, units searched for the man in boats and along the shore.

His body was recovered just before 8 p.m., the Rutland police said.

The man has been identified as Athanasios George Mitros, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.

Rutland police say the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
