Man gets probation for voting twice in 2020 election in Las Vegas, Arizona
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man who voted twice in the 2020 election — once in Nevada and again in Arizona — will serve probation, a judge ruled last week.
In September, Mark White took a plea deal on a charge of attempting to vote more than once in the same election, records said. On Jan. 8, Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Schwartz sentenced White to probation for 18 months, records said. Should White violate the terms of his probation, he would go to prison.
In October 2020, White voted early at a Las Vegas voting location. A week later, he voted again in Kingman, Arizona, documents said.
Last month, the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office released a document indicating it was investigating 180 double-vote attempts from the 2024 general election. Nevada’s election systems prevent a voter from casting a second vote since each voter is given a unique identifier and can only vote once.
The office cautioned that not all double-vote attempts are criminal. A double vote can also occur if two people in the same household become confused about using one mail-in ballot or if a voter accidentally votes in one state, moves, and then votes in another.
A new voter registration and management system helped find real-time discrepancies in potential double votes, the department said.
“As I have repeatedly and consistently said, we will prosecute any credible allegations of voter fraud that are uncovered,” Democratic Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said in a statement. “Voter fraud undercuts trust in our institutions and is a direct attack on our system of democracy.”
“Nevada runs some of the most secure elections in the country, and that means investigating any potential instances of fraud,” Democratic Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar said in a statement. “I’m grateful to the law enforcement officers in the Secretary of State’s office for all of their effort on elections cases, and to the Attorney General’s Office for showing what happens when you try to undermine our democracy.”
There was no indication of widespread voter fraud in the 2020, 2022 or 2024 elections.
As the 8 News Now Investigators first reported, a Las Vegas man who voted twice in the 2020 election with his deceased wife’s ballot was able to withdraw his plea on a felony charge and instead pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor as part of a plea deal where he avoided jail time and had to pay a $2,000 fine.
