Norfolk man killed in overnight shooting; man charged

A man is dead after an overnight shooting in Norfolk, police report.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 1800 block of Core Avenue, near Gates Avenue, at around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. They found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

The man, later identified as Bradley K. Kortbawi, 44, of Norfolk, was pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result of their investigation, detectives charged Vandes Jackson, 56, of Norfolk, with second-degree murder and use of a firearm.

Jackson was taken into custody at the scene and is being held in Norfolk City Jail without bond.
