Man from Mexico facing murder charges after Baton Rouge shooting

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An investigation into a reported shooting ended with the arrest of one man on multiple charges.

David Gonzales, 55, of Mexico, was charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.

A detective with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was called to a home in the 4300 block of Kerrit Drive on May 25.

The detective “learned that several suspects arrived at the aforementioned address armed with handguns and rifles,” according to the affidavit.

EBRSO said they got out of the vehicle that they came in and started shooting in the direction of the home.

They said several people were in front of the home during the shooting. Some of the suspects reportedly left the scene in the vehicle, while others did so on foot.

The detective was able to find video, which showed the vehicle believed to have been in the area when the shooting took place.

During a subsequent search of the scene, EBRSO said “several gold-colored spent shell casings and live rounds of ammunition were recovered from the ground.”

As the investigation unfolded, EBRSO was able to obtain the names and locations of suspects in this shooting. They said a victim was able to identify “the vehicle of interest” during a drive-by with EBRSO.

The vehicle was found at a home in the 4800 block of Hammond Street. EBRSO went to that address and located multiple people and performed a security sweep.

During that sweep, EBRSO found a spent shell casing that looked similar to the ones found at the shooting scene. They also found a live round in the suspect’s vehicle.

EBRSO, then, got search warrants to look through the vehicle and home. They were able to get latent prints from the vehicle, which helped them identify two people, including Gonzales.

EBRSO spoke with the vehicle owner, who said that, according to the affidavit, “he loaned the vehicle to a Hispanic male only identified as “Miggo” or “David.”

The owner said the man left by himself in the vehicle but came back with three Hispanic men.

EBRSO also said “that the times in which the vehicle had been taken and returned were consistent with the timeframe of the shooting,” according to the affidavit.

A victim was able to identify Gonzales in a photo lineup.
