Man sentenced 80 years behind bars for deadly Bloomington shooting in 2022

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A 24-year-old man was sentenced to eight decades in prison earlier this week for his role in a deadly Bloomington shooting two years ago.

According to McLean County Circuit Court records, Jaylin Bones, 24, was sentenced Tuesday in court to 80 years in prison for the shooting death of then-29-year-old Timothy Manns. Bones was initially charged with one count of first-degree murder with intent to kill or cause great bodily harm, which caused the death of Manns. Bones also faced charges of aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm. Each charge is a felony.

The sentencing range for the murder count is higher than normal as the jury found that Bones “personally discharged” the gun that killed Manns. That finding triggers a stiffer sentence under Illinois law.

On Jan. 24, 2022, Bones shot Manns in the head inside an apartment near Jefferson and Evans streets in Bloomington. The shooting resulted from a dispute between the two over a gun, according to court records.

Agents with the U.S. Marshals Service and Great Lakes Regional Task Force later found arrested Bones on Feb. 2, 2023, in a Peoria retail store in connection to Manns’ killing.
