Man shot dead in U-Haul van full of weed on quiet Queens block

A 43-year-old man was shot dead in a U-Haul van full of weed on a quiet residential Queens block early Thursday, police said.

The victim collapsed half in and half out of the van after being shot in the head in front of a home on 208th St. near 32nd Drive. in Bayside about 1:05 a.m., cops said. The van was full of marijuana, police sources said.

A 21-year-old man told cops that a crook stole his cell phone during the clash that led to the shooting. The younger man was not hurt and was being interviewed by cops.

“It’s a shame,” said a neighbor who has lived in his home 15 years. “Everybody came out looking and I was asking, ‘What’s happening?’ Nobody knew exactly what happened. But it’s scary. It used to be a nice place to live.”

No arrests have been made.

“I’m scared,” a woman who declined to give her name said she stood in the driveway of her house near the crime scene. “I have kids. Oh my god … It’s a very good area — no dangers, no nothing. It’s a really quiet street.”
