Man steals Memphis Police vehicle in Raleigh getaway

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say a man stole a squad car Friday evening in Raleigh.

Officers were responding to a suspicious person just before 6 p.m. at a Burlington Coat Factory at Stage Road and Covington Pike.

When they attempted to make contact, they say the man ran off and stole a squad car to get away.

He was taken into custody at James Road and Old Austin Peay, about a mile and a half west, and taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries.

Armed robberies after escape get 210-year sentence

Police did not identify the suspect.
