Man suspected of rape in Oildale has trial delayed

The trial for a man suspected of raping a woman in Oildale was delayed Wednesday in Kern County Superior Court as his defense attorney was engaged in a different trial.

Alvin Carter, 37, is charged with forcible oral copulation, assault with intent to commit oral copulation, first-degree burglary and kidnapping. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

Carter appeared in court Wednesday. He is represented by defense attorney Phillip Gillet.

According to a report filed in court by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Carter and another suspect showed up at the victim’s house with guns. The victim ran into the house and hid in the kitchen, according to the report.

Carter came into the house through the side door and found the victim in the kitchen and pointed a gun at her, according to the report. Carter then dragged the victim to the bathroom, where he forced her to commit sexual acts before fleeing, the report said.

Carter’s next court date is scheduled for Oct. 21. He is being held on $1.7 million bail.
