Mariannette Miller-Meeks has won the Republican nomination for U.S. House in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.

Miller-Meeks spoke to Our Quad Cities News on Tuesday night and cited her accessibility and availability in the district as a reason for her large lead in the primary and ultimate win.

“Although most of our time is spent in Washington D.C. — almost two thirds of our time is spent away from our districts in our state — but when I’m in the state, in the district, I travel extensively,” Miller-Meeks said.

The Associated Press called the race for Miller-Meeks at 10 p.m. with 74% of precincts reporting, a 13% lead and Scott County results not yet posted.

When they did get posted, the results showed Miller-Meeks lost Scott County by six votes to challenger David Pautsch. The final unofficial statewide results had Miller-Meeks at 56% (16,445 votes) to Pautsch’s 44% (12,928).

Kerri Tompkins won the primary for Scott County auditor over David Mark Nelson, 3,062 votes to 2,008, while Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane beat challenger Chris Laye by a vote count of 4,190 to 1,278.
