Mass shooting in Wisconsin leaves 17-year-old girl dead, nine others injured

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – A 17-year-old girl was killed Monday morning, and nine others were injured during a mass shooting at a “car party” in Wisconsin.

According to a release from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place at Dineen Park on the west side of Milwaukee.

Investigators say several dozen people, many of them teenagers, gathered on the north side of the Dineen Park parking lot Sunday night in response to a social media invitation to a car party or car-focused social meetup at the location.

During the impromptu car meetup, a verbal altercation broke out, and shortly before 12:30 a.m., the Milwaukee Police Department received at least one 911 call reporting the shooting.

Upon arrival, deputy sheriffs, police officers, and emergency medical services discovered the 17-year-old girl dead at the scene and eight other shooting victims. One young woman suffered an upper-body injury from being trampled, bringing the total injured to nine.

At the time of this post, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office says that all surviving shooting victims are being treated at nearby hospitals, including a 15-year-old boy, five 18-year-old women, and two 18-year-old men.

Most victims are in stable condition, and one of the 18-year-old males is in critical condition. The trampling victim, a 19-year-old woman, was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say that two homes, one around North 66th Street and West Vienna Avenue and one at North 67th Street and West Vienna Avenue, were hit by gunfire, which is believed to be connected to this incident. There were no injuries to the occupants inside the home.

The release says investigators are working to identify and locate a suspect or suspect as well as a motive.
