Mayflower police investigating after finding two bodies during welfare check at church

MAYFLOWER, Ark. – Authorities in Mayflower are investigating after finding two people dead during a welfare check at a church on Tuesday.

Police said officers responded around 12:30 p.m. to a call for a welfare check at the First Baptist Church of Mayflower at 4 Highway 89 North.

When they arrived, authorities said the officers found the bodies of a man and a woman in the parking lot of the church. MPD officials said the two appear to have died from gunshot wounds.

No additional victim information has been released at this time, but Mayflower Police Department officials said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided when it is available.

Authorities noted that the Faulkner County Coroner’s Office and the Arkansas State Police are assisting with the investigation.

Officials did not say if this case was being investigated as a homicide.
