McCaffery Fire grows to 150 acres, brings level 3 'go now' evacuation orders near Redmond
A fast-moving wildfire just outside Redmond has brought level 3 "go now" evacuation orders in Central Oregon, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.
The McCaffery Fire, which ignited Saturday afternoon east of the Redmond Airport and south of Highway 126, was estimated at 150 acres. The fire is roughly 3 miles from structures, according to Central Oregon Fire Information.
Multiple fire crews, along with three large air tankers and a heavy helicopter, are working the blaze. The Redmond Airport is temporarily closed to aid in firefighting efforts, according to the nonprofit wildfire tracker Watch Duty.
Level 3 "go now" evacuation orders have been issued for:
Powell Butte Estates/McCafferty Road in Crook County
Southeast Sunny Sage Way off Southeast McCaffery Road
Powell Butte Estates/McCafferty Road
A temporary evacuation point has been established at Powell Butte Christian Church at 13720 SW Highway 126 in Powell Butte.
Much of Oregon is expected to bake under extreme temperatures over the new few days, increasing danger for wildfires.
