A medspa owner gave illegal Botox injections. She also claims licensing she doesn’t have

Modern Image Aesthetics and Wellness, located in the upscale University Park neighborhood outside Bradenton, promises on its website that “nurse practitioner and founder Yuliya Crosley will work with you to identify the most effective treatments available.”

But Crosley isn’t a nurse practitioner, or an advanced practice registered nurse, in Florida. She’s no longer even a registered nurse.

Crosley’s nursing license was revoked by the state Board of Nursing in May for giving botox injections without the proper license, according to records from the Florida Department of Health. The illegal shots occurred from Nov. 1, 2020, through May 31, 2021, while Crosley was employed at It’s A Secret Beauty Lounge in Bradenton.

Crosley didn’t answer calls or emails from the Miami Herald.

Florida law states that only advanced practice registered nurses are able to give “aesthetic skin care services” such as botox shots, without a doctor present. Crosley was, at the time, licensed only as a registered nurse.

Advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) is the designation given to several different advanced nursing licenses in Florida, including that of nurse practitioner. Online Florida Department of Health license records say Crosley has never been licensed as an APRN in Florida.

It’s a Secret owner Amanda Keem confirmed that Crosley “did injections” at It’s a Secret, and claims she was “absolutely not” aware that Crosley’s license had been revoked for shots administered at her business. She said Crosley left It’s a Secret about three years ago.

Follow-up attempts to contact Keem to ask how a nurse was able to give injections for six months without proper licensing were unsuccessful.

Modern Image Aesthetics and Wellness, the medspa Crosley runs, offers several services, including “injectables” according to its website.

In addition to identifying herself as a “nurse practitioner” on her company’s website, Crosley also refers to herself as an “ARNP.” That’s an old designation for nurse practitioners and other advanced nursing licenses.

In 2018, the Florida Legislature changed the official designation from “ARNP” to “APRN.”
