Memorial service to be held for fallen Cleveland police officer

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter responded to a call on the 4th of July that would be his last.

The 27-year-old officer was shot and killed just before 1 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 80th Street near Wade Park.

Ritter, a 4-year veteran of the police department, responded to the area for a report of a man who was wanted for felony assault.

According to police, the suspect tried to escape on a bike and pulled out a gun and began firing.

Officer Jamieson Ritter was killed.

Bond set at $5M for man accused of killing Cleveland officer

The Cleveland Division of Police is holding a memorial service for Ritter on Monday, July 8.

The memorial service will be held at Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist at 1007 Superior Ave. at 10 a.m.

Ritter’s funeral will be held later, out of state.

The FOX 8 I-Team reported Delawnte Hardy, 24, was taken into custody. He’s charged with aggravated murder.
