Metro police share tips for preventing vehicle thefts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville authorities turned to social media Thursday to share some advice to help keep community members — and their cars — safe from criminals.

“Y’all…Criminals stay lurking…DON’T be the one to make their job easy!” the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Central Precinct wrote on Facebook, with a few emojis tossed in.

Law enforcement provided the following tips about how to “#ParkSmart” in Nashville:

  • Don’t leave any valuables visible inside your vehicle, including purses, phones, luggage, or money.

  • Don’t leave firearms unattended in your car. Instead, lock them up at home or in your hotel safe.

  • Don’t have identifiers on your vehicle that scream “pick me,” such as firearm, military, police, or other related stickers or license plates.

  • Park in well-lit and populated areas so there are more witnesses to any potential crime.

  • Lock your car and take the keys with you.
