Milwaukee squad car hits body lying in road while responding to hostage situation

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – Two officers with the Milwaukee Police Department were placed on administrative duty after a squad car hit someone who was lying in the road while responding to a hostage situation on Saturday.

A release from the Milwaukee PD states that the 57-year-old who was hit by a separate vehicle prior to the officer-involved incident, died at the scene on July 27.

Around 2:35 a.m., Milwaukee officers were responding to a hostage situation when they reportedly “struck a body that was lying in the roadway” in the 1400 block of West North Avenue.

An investigation led officers to believe that the 57-year-old was allegedly hit by a black SUV on North 14th Street and West North Avenue earlier that morning or the prior evening. A timeframe was not provided.

The officers involved in this incident are a 38-year-old man with over 4 years of service and a 25-year-old man with over 6 years of service. They will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation, the release noted.

The Milwaukee PD is actively looking for the alleged black SUV and driver, with the Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit investigating the incident with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Officers are describing the incident as a fluid and ongoing investigation.
