Missing South Carolina teen found shot to death day before his 16th birthday

A South Carolina teenager, reported missing by his family, was found shot and killed Thursday in Sumter, South Carolina, the day before his 16th birthday.

Derrick “C.D.” Wilson was reported missing by his family at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Sumter Police Department. He was last seen Tuesday leaving a relative’s home and getting into a car with “two unknown individuals,” according to a statement posted to the department’s Facebook page.

His body was found Thursday afternoon by officers in the area of Hoyt and Nelson Streets, a residential neighborhood south of downtown Sumter.

Wilson was shot, according to police. An autopsy has been scheduled for next week.

“Officers are working to determine who he was with, what happened and why,” according to the statement.
