Containment grows around Moccasin Fire

(FOX40.COM) — The Moccasin Fire burning in El Dorado County has prompted evacuations for some nearby residents, according to the El Dorado County Fire Protection District.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said at 3:41 p.m. Tuesday that the fire spread about 20 to 25 acres and multiple agencies are working to combat the fire. By 10:30 p.m., the fire was at 51 acres with 15% containment.

On Wednesday morning, CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit shared that the fire saw no overnight growth and containment has now reached 25%. Evacuation orders and warnings are still in place.

Evacuation warnings are also in place for all roads north of Pleasant Valley Road.

CAL FIRE said a temporary evacuation point is at the Placerville Library at 345 Fair Lane in Placerville. A charging station and water is available. Leashed and kenneled pets are allowed. The sheriff’s office said a large animal evacuation shelter is located at Saureel Vineyards on 1140 Cold Springs Road in Placerville.

The fire is burning on the south end of Oak Hill Road off of the Moccasin Trail south of Placerville and west of Somerset. Officials said one home was initially involved in the fire.

El Dorado County officials said road closures are in place at Pleasant Valley Road/Hanks Exchange and Pleasant Valley Road/Oak Hill Road.
