Modesto hospital has a new chief executive officer as Sutter aims to expand services
Sutter Health has promoted Tracy Roman to serve as chief executive officer of Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Roman has been the chief financial officer for Memorial, Sutter Memorial Hospital in Los Banos and Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.
Sacramento-based Sutter Health announced the promotion in a news release Thursday, saying Roman has been a major driver in developing and expanding hospital services. Those services have supported the health care needs of women and children and improved access to cancer care.
“She has also been a major champion of quality and safety improvements, and securing capital investments for infrastructure and strategic growth designed to help care for more people in Modesto and those from surrounding areas,” the news release said.
Roman has been with Sutter Health for five years. She previously held administrative positions at hospitals in the area for 18 years. She was chief operating officer at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock for more than four years.
“I’ve called the Central Valley home for decades, and I have been privileged to work over the years alongside the physicians, nurses, clinicians and other team members who deeply care for this community,” Roman said. “I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve in this new capacity and look forward to what our teams can accomplish together to best support patients and their families.”
Roman’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Stanislaus State University and a master’s in healthcare administration from the University of Southern California.
Gino Patrizio was the previous top administrator at Memorial in Modesto. He was elevated to a new role as Greater Central Valley Market president in summer 2023 as part of a Sutter restructuring plan.
Patrizio said Roman has the leadership experience as Sutter works to meet growing demand for health services in the Central Valley.
“Tracy’s dedication to her role has been evident, and the depth and breadth of her experience positions her very well to lead our hospital teams,” Patrizio said in the news release. “We are enthusiastic about the positive impact she will continue to make as we work to expand and improve healthcare accessibility.”
