Monday commute on Route 46 disrupted with most lanes closed in Clifton after crash
Commuters should brace for significant delays Monday while a crash investigation has shut down all lanes on Route 46 westbound just east of the Garden State Parkway at Paulison Avenue in Clifton. The New Jersey Department of Transportation urged drivers to seek alternate routes.
The incident occurred before 5:00 a.m. this morning, when multiple 911 calls reported a crash on Route 46 westbound at the Hazel St/Paulison Ave exit, according to the Clifton Police Department.
Responding officers determined that the crash involved a motorcycle and a commercial truck. The male motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Clifton Fire Department EMS and paramedics.
The Clifton Police Department's Traffic Division and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office CSI are currently on the scene conducting an investigation. NJDOT personnel are assisting with lane closures and traffic management.
In addition, the left lane of Route 46 eastbound was closed as part of the investigation.
Motorists traveling in the area are advised to follow the detour signs and plan additional travel time.
NJDOT officials have not yet provided an estimated time for the reopening of the lanes.
