More road, ramp, and lane closures coming to Northern California

(FOX40.COM) — About one week after Northern California drivers had to deal with various closures along Interstate 5 and Interstate 80, more closures are coming to the region.

Various projects by Caltrans are expected to disrupt the daily commute of drivers in Placer, Nevada, Sierra, and Sacramento counties. Those projects include an effort to bring high-speed broadband to rural communities, work to enhance a portion of Highway 50, and other emergency repairs.

Here is when closures will be in effect and the areas that will be impacted.

Major construction on I-5 between Stockton and Sacramento will take years to complete

Highway 50

As part of the nearly $500 million “Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project” from the Interstate 5 connector to 0.8 miles east of Watt Avenue, long-term ramp closures will begin on Monday, July 8.

The project seeks to expand 14 new HOV lane miles and rehabilitate 54 lane miles of pavement on US 50 from the US 50/I-5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.

Long-term closures are scheduled at the Riverside Boulevard on-ramp and 15th Street off-ramp on eastbound US-50.

  • Closures will start on Monday, July 8 at 5 a.m.

  • Closures are expected to last two weeks.

  • Motorists driving eastbound on US-50 will be directed to the 5th Street off-ramp and 16th Street on-ramp.
