Morganton felon parked at a greenway found with meth and a firearm, charged

MORGANTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A convicted felon has been arrested after being found with drugs and a gun while in his car at a greenway after it was closed, according to the Morganton Department of Public Safety.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers saw a vehicle at the greenway off Greenlee Ford Road after hours.

The driver was confronted about being parked at the greenway while it was closed and officers noticed drug paraphernalia in the front seat.

Officials say the driver refused to get out of the vehicle and began digging around his waistband and near the center console until officers forced themselves into the car and arrested him.

In the car, authorities found multiple bags of methamphetamine and a pistol in the center console.

Johny Lee, 36, is a convicted felon. He was booked under a $55,000 secured bond for the charges of:

  • 2 counts of resist, delay, obstruct a public officer

  • Possession with intent to sell/deliver methamphetamine

  • Possession of methamphetamine

  • Possession of a firearm by a felon

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

  • Carrying a concealed weapon

  • 2nd-degree trespassing

Lee’s first court date is set for Monday, July 8.
