Can cities in Tennessee keep up educationally with other part of the country?
A recent report from WalletHub analyzed data on different states to determine the most and least educated cities in the United States. Based on the report, only one of four Tennessee cities made it into the top 50. Data was collected from U.S. Census Bureau, GreatSchools.org, Education Equality Index, and WalletHub research.
The study measured the 150 largest metropolitan statistical areas across the United States. The areas were measured on 11 components dealing with education.
Here is what the list found.
Most educated cities in Tennessee
According to the list, the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin area was the 43rd most educated area in the country. The area scored an overall 60.69 out of 100. It ranked No. 44 for educational attainment and No. 58 for quality of education and the attainment gap.
Knoxville ranked at No. 91 on the list with a score of 51.24. It ranked No. 95 for educational attainment and No. 44 for quality of education and the attainment gap.
Memphis and Chattanooga were placed at No. 108 and 109 respectively. Memphis scored a 47.20 while Chattanooga scored a 46.91.
Memphis ranked No. 103 for educational attainment and No. 109 for quality of education and the attainment gap. Chattanooga ranked No. 107 for educational attainment and No. 97 for quality of education and the attainment gap.
Most educated cities in America
Ann Arbor, Michigan landed the No. 1 spot out of 150 cities. It ranked No. 1 for educational attainment and No. 4 for quality of education and the attainment gap.

Methodology for study
Educational attainment was weighed 80 points. Quality of education and the attainment gap was weighed at 20 points. All scores were based on a 100 point scale. The closer to 100, the better the education in that area.
