Mother with young child carjacked in Park Ridge

PARK RIDGE, Ill. — A woman was carjacked Thursday night at the 7-11 in Park Ridge.

Park Ridge police were dispatched to the store, located in the 800 block of Higgins Road, on the report of a vehicular hijacking.

Officers at the scene learned that a woman parked her 2024 white Jeep Grand Cherokee in front of the store and went in to buy some milk. The woman’s 3-year-old child and mother remained in the backseat.

A man, described as 19-25 years old, wearing a blue hat, a dark-colored shirt and blue jeans, approached the vehicle and displayed a handgun, police said.

He ordered the woman and 3-year-old out of a vehicle. The driver then walked out of the 7-11 and she was robbed of her wallet at gunpoint by the man. He proceeded to steal the Grand Cherokee and drive away.

Illinois State Police located it in the area of 34th and Halsted in Chicago. Police said the vehicle was involved in a crash and the suspect fled on foot. A search was conducted, but he was not found.

The incident remains under investigation, according to police.

Anyone with information that could help lead the Park Ridge Police Department toward making an arrest and conviction in the investigation are asked by police to reach out to 847-318-5252.
