Motive in May Day shooting revealed during Aniah’s Law hearing for murder suspect Mack Adams

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) — Shackled and heavily guarded, Mack Adams, 25, of Bay Minette was led into court to face an Aniah’s Law hearing on two counts of murder. He is charged in the deaths of Michael Anderson Jr. and Chiquita Ewing, “who was just an innocent bystander in all this,” according to Assistant District Attorney Patrick Doggett.

During testimony, investigators revealed that witnesses saw Adams and Robert Brown, who is also charged with both murders, pull weapons and initiate the violence as they approached a rival group that included Anderson.

“The shots started from the group that involved Robert German Brown and Mack Adams and those were towards the area where Michael Anderson Jr. who was a part of the other group and unfortunately ChIquita Ewing,” says Doggett.

Earlier this week investigators said the motive for the gunfire was “beyond stupid”. In court Thursday, testimony revealed what investigators say sparked the violence. “Robert Brown was hit over the head with a bottle the week before by one of the victims of the May Day shooting,” says Doggett.

The gunfire was payback, “That appears to be the biggest motive for what happened the night of the May Day shooting,” says Doggett.

At the end of the hearing, District Judge William Scully ordered Adams held without bond for both of the murder charges.

Also in court, family members of Michael Anderson, Junior and the children of Chiquita Ewing.
