Motorcycle crash near Bremerton National sends one to hospital, slows traffic

A collision just south of Bremerton National Airport closed Highway 3 for a period of time Tuesday morning and sent the driver of a motorcycle to St. Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 32-year-old Shelton man riding a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle was following a Jeep Patriot driving north on Highway 3 around 7:30 a.m. When the Jeep, driven by a 43-year-old Port Orchard woman, slowed to make a left turn near the highway's intersection with Lake Flora Road, the motorcycle attempted to pass and struck the Jeep from behind on the driver's side.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital and the cause of the incident will remain under investigation, according to the WSP. His motorcycle was totaled. The driver of the Jeep was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Traffic backed up during the road closure caused by the crash, and the highway was fully open after about two hours, according to WSP.
