Motorcyclist critically hurt after crashing, falling 35 feet below 169 Highway

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police say a motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition after repeatedly colliding with a barrier before he was ejected and fell 35 feet below to railroad grounds underneath 169 Highway on Saturday.

A KCPD crash report says this happened just after 3 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway, and the motorcyclist was the only person involved.

The report says the driver of a blue Kawasaki motorcycle was going too fast in an area that’s under construction and down to a single lane. He lost control on the curve just before the 9 Highway exit to Riverside and Parkville, and went straight into a barrier.

The motorcycle’s momentum continued north, and after one of the strikes against the barrier, the driver was thrown off the motorcycle between the north and southbound lanes, leading to the long fall.

The driver didn’t land on tracks, and a Union Pacific Train crew that was passing by saw the fall, stopped, and called 911.
