Mountain View man arrested for leading officers on chase across Bay Bridge: police

(KRON) — A Mountain View man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he led police officers on a chase from San Mateo to San Francisco and eventually across the Bay Bridge, the San Mateo Police Department said. Jonathan Connelly, 33, was allegedly using a stolen car as he ran red lights and stop signs.

An automated license plate reader near East Poplar Avenue and North Amphlett Boulevard alerted SMPD to the stolen car just before 3 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was a black Mercedes Benz that had been reported stolen out of Mountain View on Tuesday.

Officers tried to stop the car, but Connelly sped away, SMPD said. He drove “recklessly” through San Mateo before merging onto northbound Highway 101.

California Highway Patrol joined the chase as officers chased the car through San Francisco and onto the Bay Bridge. Eventually, Connelly crashed in the area of the toll plaza, police said.

He got out and tried to run away, but officers caught up to him and arrested him. He was taken to a hospital and later San Mateo County Jail.

“Take the time to close and lock all windows and door when you park your car, never leave your keys in your car, park in well lit areas, and never leave valuables in your vehicle,” SMPD said.
