MPD announces new Interim Assistant Chief

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department announced Friday that they have selected an interim Assistant Chief of Administrative Services and Investigative Services.

Deputy Chief Sharonda Hampton is now filling in as an interim position, the announcement says.

This comes after the former Assistant Memphis Police Chief Shawn Jones left the department earlier this month.

Jones received backlash from city council members who labeled him a “part-time crime fighter” after MPD confirmed he was still a resident of the state of Georgia.

As of July 8, Jones is no longer with the city, Mayor Paul Young and Interim Chief C.J. Davis said.

“We believe that he’s done great work for the city but it’s time for him to move on,” Young said.
