1 seriously injured in South Memphis shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is critically injured following a shooting at a South Memphis gas station Tuesday morning.

Police say the shooting happened in the 900 block of South Parkway East, but the victim was found in the 1100 block of Wilson Street a little before 4 a.m. He was taken to Regional One in critical condition.

Surveillance video shows the same tan Toyota car at Wilson, also parked at the gas station.

In the video, several men surround a man dressed in all black as he appears to be on the ground. When he gets up, he starts swinging as the other men scatter.

Police are not identifying the individual. It is still unclear what led up to the shooting and how the victim ended up on Wilson.

A woman living in the area says this is not surprising to her.

“I hear shootings all the time. On this street, the next street – shootings happen all around here,” said the woman.

According to the Memphis Data Hub, so far this year, 21 incidents have occurred within a quarter-mile radius.

“Make sure these children are in bed at a proper time and get them some rest,” said the woman. “It’s just too much. We done forgot, we done forgot. I mean, the things that brought us this far we done forgot them.”

This is still an ongoing investigation. Memphis Police has not released any information about the alleged suspect.
