Multiple Oregon wildfires can be seen from space

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Multiple Oregon wildfires are burning so hot that the GOES Satellite in space is able to pick up on the heat signature.

The largest fire burning in Oregon as of Thursday is the Little Valley Fire in eastern Oregon. The fire started from a strong line of storms with lightning Wednesday. Now, the fire burns hot and as large as 11,000 acres. The fire hot spot detection on the GOES 18 Satellite is able to pick up on heat signatures associated with wildfires.

The second visible fire seen from space is the Darlene 3 Fire that’s scorched over 3,000 acres since it started Tuesday. The fire might be smaller in size compared to the Little Valley Fire, but is still visible from satellite.
