The Murfreesboro Police Department initially described the crash as “serious,” adding that the road was temporarily closed between Billy Boulevard and Haven Drive in both directions.

A Friday press release from the department said that the driver involved in the crash, 41-year-old Isaiah Isom, initially fled the scene in a 2011 Buick Enclave. Shortly after the incident, two women drove the vehicle back to the scene of the crime and one woman claimed that she had been driving.

That story was later determined to be false, according to Murfreesboro Police. The two women were later interviewed by investigators and their involvement will be presented to the Rutherford County District Attorney’s Office.

When investigators visited Isom at his residence, he initially denied his involvement in the crash. However, later, he admitted that he had been involved. Isom has been charged with leaving a scene involving a death or serious bodily injury and driving on a revoked license due to a previous DUI.
