Naples driver dead after his car goes airborne, smashes into a canal wall, submerges
A 69-year-old Naples man died in a high speed, single-car wreck in Collier County Saturday night.
The man drove his sedan east at a high speed down 12th Avenue NE, a dead-end road in the area of Collier County northeast of Wilson Boulevard N and Golden Gate Boulevard E. The crash happened shortly after 8 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The car left the road, launched over a canal, hit the canal embankment, landed in the canal and sunk. The driver was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and died later.
