The Democratic National Committee has spent $1.2 million in North Carolina so far for this election as part of its investment in swing states.

The $1.2 million is part of the $15 million the DNC has spent in battleground states. The money has helped open 217 field offices and employ 1,000 people, according to a news release.

The DNC announced its spending as the Republican National Convention gets underway in Milwaukee. Former President Donald Trump named US Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate on Monday and Trump made his first public appearance since Saturday’s assassination attempt.

Democrats emphasizing the importance of the campaign ground game.

This is part of the largest ever investment made to battleground state parties at this point in time – $15 million in direct investment into battleground state parties – and we continue to build our war chests in preparation to re-elect President Biden and Vice President Harris in November,” DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison said in a statement.

The money helps fund a coordinated campaign in North Carolina, where staffers promote the entire Democratic ticket.

“As MAGA Republicans hype up Donald Trump this week, it’s important to remember that Democrats are lightyears ahead of the RNC on the ground, where it actually matters. We’re going to win this election by engaging voters community-by-community, block-by-block, door-by-door. These investments show that commitment in action.”

In addition to the money, Biden, Harris, Jill Biden and Harrison have spent valuable campaign time in the state rallying supporters.

Biden held a campaign rally in Raleigh last month, where he delivered an energetic speech and tried to move past a shaky debate performance from the night before.

Harris campaigned in Greensboro last week and will return to North Carolina this week to speak in Fayetteville. Jill Biden campaigned in Wilmington last week.

Though North Carolina is still considered a battleground, the “blue wall” states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan are considered critical and offer the “clearest path” to a Biden victory, according to a campaign memo prepared by senior aides and obtained by the Associated Press last week. The memo said the Sun Belt states are “not out of reach,” PBS News reported.
