FRIDAY, JULY 5, 2024, 4:10 p.m.

MANAWA, Wis. (WFRV) – Following severe flooding in Manawa, public health officials have declared a Boil Water Advisory for Manawa and surrounding areas.

A Boil Water Advisory is a public health announcement that the public should boil tap water before drinking it. When issued, the public should assume the water is unsafe to drink due to contaminants.

“We are recommending this course of action as a precautionary measure until some water testing can be done to ensure it is safe to consume,” said officials.

All water used for drinking, food preparation, and ice should be boiled at a full rolling boil for at least five minutes prior to use.

Ice and any beverages prepared with unboiled tap water should be discarded. As a further precaution, residents in this area should consider drinking bottled water and using bottled water for cooking and personal needs like brushing their teeth.

Health experts caution that boiled water should not be used for infants or expectant mothers as nitrates may also be a concern. Bottled water should be used for these individuals.
