UPDATE: NB I-57 reopens in Champaign Co. after vehicle fire

Update at 3:15 p.m.

State Police said both lanes of northbound I-57 have reopened, and traffic is flowing again.


CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Both lanes of northbound I-57 south of Champaign are currently shut down after a vehicle caught fire.

The fire happened at Milepost 223, between Pesotum and Savoy. Officials with the Illinois State Police said the fire has been extinguished and no injuries are being reported as of 2:50 p.m.

State Police did not provide an estimate on when the highway will reopen.
