NC man wanted for hitting Lowe’s employee in the head with sledgehammer, police say

Durham police are trying to find a 25-year-old man they say hit a Lowe’s employee in the head with a sledgehammer and ran off with a drill set Saturday night.

Aaron Deshown Willams of Durham is accused of assault and robbery in the incident at the store on Fayetteville Road.

Officers responded around 9 p.m. to a reported assault at Lowe’s Home Improvement store at 4402 Fayetteville Road.

“An employee of the business was assisting a customer when the customer took a sledgehammer from his shopping cart and struck the employee’s head,” the Police Department stated in a news release Wednesday. “When the victim fell to the ground, the customer grabbed a drill set box and ran out of the store.”

The employee, who suffered serious injuries, is in stable condition, according to the release.

Williams faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
