Nearly 2,500 remain without power after storms move through Miami Valley

Jul. 15—Nearly 10,000 AES Ohio customers remained without power Monday morning after thunderstorms and damaging winds moved through the Miami Valley Sunday afternoon.

As of 9:07 a.m. Monday, 9,941 people did not have service, according to the AES Ohio Outage Map. Montgomery County accounted for approximately 6,000 outages, and Greene County had around 2,200 without power.

As of 5:52 p.m. , fewer than 2,500 customers were without power.

AES Ohio is reporting the following outages: — Clark County: 117 — Darke County: 6 — Greene County: 591 — Montgomery County: 1,697 — Preble County: 27 — Warren County: 36

Sunday evening shortly after the storms, there were 37,848 AES Ohio customers without power. Around 11:15 p.m., the company reported approximately 17,000 outages.

"Our teams include crews who assess damages and tree crews who must sometimes clear debris before our line crews can step in to work on the lines," read a statement posted to AES Ohio's X, formerly known as Twitter, page. "Crews are working quickly and safely to restore power."

Shortly after 9:15 a.m. Monday, Duke Energy was reporting 22 outages in Bulter County and 22 in Warren County.

Ohio Edison had fewer than 20 customers without power in Clark County as of 9:17 a.m. Monday.

Additional storms are expected on Monday and Tuesday, with damaging winds the primary threat, according to the National Weather Service.

The best chance for severe storms is Monday afternoon and evening, with the Miami Valley at a marginal risk.
