Meet the $4.6 million floating home of your post-lottery dreams
What is it with the superrich and floating homes? First, Facebook billionaire Peter Thiel announced his plans to build Galt's Gulch 2.0, a floating city on the sea. Now, German company ORSOS Islands wants you to know that floating home ownership is within reach of any billionaire with their new Island luxury yacht.
Now, we say yacht, but the obnoxiously luxurious vessel really does seem more house than boat. The yacht offers over 10,000 square feet of living space — enough for 12 residents, says the company. The ultra-luxury yacht includes solar panels, skylighting, a living room, kitchen, and even a home theater room.
The aquatic home isn't officially available for sale yet — the Island is only in the prototype phase. That's probably just as well, though. We'll need a little bit of time to work up the $4.6 million needed to buy one.
If you're having trouble running this purchase by your spouse, we suggest this little trick: Start the conversation by mentioning how you could spend $1.7 million on a Corvette speedboat that you can't even live on. From that perspective, the $4.6 million purchase price seems like a steal.
