Mumbai housewife files obscenity complaint against Sunny Leone

Anjali Palan says the actress’s porn videos are easily available on her official website and are disastrous for the Indian society.

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress and former pornstar Sunny Leone is finding it difficult to escape her past. The Kuch Kuch Locha Hai actress is in fresh trouble with an FIR being registered against her for uploading and distributing explicit content on the Internet and social media.

According to a complaint at Ramnagar police station in Dombivali in Thane district, the actress’s porn videos are easily available on her official website and are disastrous for the Indian society.

Anjali Palan, a 30-year-old social activist who had lodged the complaint against Sunny, had found several obscene posts and pictures of the actress while surfing the Internet, police said.

"Such posts poison the minds of people and especially children," she said in her complaint.

The police have registered an FIR against Sunny under Sections 292, 292 (A), 294 and 34 of the IPC and under 6, 7 and 67 (A) of the Information Technology Act.

"We have also registered a complaint against her under the Indecent Representation of Women Act (3) and (4)," a police official said. The local police have transferred the case to the Cyber Crime Cell of the Thane police.

"We will soon start the investigations into the complaint lodged against the actress. However, before we proceed with the case we will have to take legal opinions from our law officer. The final decision will, however, be taken by the government on whether to ban the site or not," an official at the Cyber Crime Cell said. Sunny, an Indian-origin Canadian porn-star, had ventured into Bollywood after a stint in the porn industry — a taboo in India.

"IT Act 67(A) makes it a non-bailable offence, which is punishable up to five years of imprisonment. Even the police can ban her website," said Prashant Mali, a cyber law expert.

Meanwhile, the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has demanded for the actress’ ouster from the country.

"Sunny Leone should be ousted from the country. We have registered several complaints but unfortunately no action is taken against her," said Dr Uday Dhuri, who is the spokesperson of Hindu Janjagruti Samiti.
