NJ Transit shutting down some trains because of heat Thursday and Friday

Some NJ Transit trains will not run Thursday or Friday due to extreme temperature issues, according to the transportation service.

NJ Transit is experiencing heat-related equipment issues affecting the air conditioning units and other electronic components, authorities said. They also will not send out a train in passenger service if an air conditioning issue is known, even if the train is otherwise operational.

"While our rail maintenance crews work around the clock to make the necessary repairs and restore affected equipment to revenue service as quickly as possible, select trains will not operate," NJ Transit said. "To minimize the impact on customers to the greatest extent possible, trains were strategically selected across multiple rail lines at different times of the service day to ensure no one rail line was disproportionately affected."

On Thursday and Friday, some trains will not operate or will be combined with other trains, and some will make additional stops, NJ Transit said. To see which lines are being impacted and when, visit the NJ Transit website, which also has suggested alternate trains.
