NJ weather: Heat index near 100, scattered evening thunderstorms for 4th of July

Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms rolling through tonight between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. There's a chance of some storms bringing heavy rain.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 71. Southerly winds will be light, at 5 to 10 mph. The overall chance of rain is 40%, with most areas seeing less than a tenth of an inch of rainfall. However, be aware that thunderstorms could produce higher amounts.

As of 9:30 a.m., there is no risk of severe weather tonight.

Heat Advisory

Residents in interior portions of Monmouth and Ocean counties should be aware that heat indices could reach near 100 this afternoon.
