NM Corrections Department debuts ‘Be Pro, Be Proud’ workshop

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Corrections Department is the first state prison system to host an immersive mobile workshop for inmates. The “Be Pro, Be Proud,” mobile workshop has helped students learn about in-demand careers, but this time it’s headed to Albuquerque to teach inmates instead.

The mobile workshop uses hands-on simulators and virtual reality experiences to imitate on-the-job experiences. Inmates have the opportunity to explore a variety of trade industries including welding, carpentry, robotics, and transportation.

The initiative is led by the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions and the state’s Center for Economic Opportunity. The state prison facility tour is scheduled for the end of the month.
