No Arizona highway closures planned for this July 4 weekend

Travelers can expect no construction or maintenance closures along state highways from the Fourth of July through the weekend, said the Arizona Department of Transportation.

From July 3-8, Arizona's highways will be fully open to vehicles traveling around the state. The state Department of Transportation announced in a news release that no construction or maintenance is scheduled for the holiday weekend but drivers should still be cautious of others on the road.

To ensure drivers arrive at their destinations safely this Fourth of July, the Department of Transportation reminds everyone to:

  • Check your vehicle, including tire pressure.

  • Allow extra time and be prepared to slow down and use cautionin existing work zones.

  • Expect the unexpected. Pack extra supplies for unscheduledclosures.

  • Rest before traveling; fatigue is a serious risk.

  • Buckle up and obey speed limits.

  • Never drive while impaired. Arrange for a designated driver.

  • Avoid stopping in areas with taller grasses or brush. Hot vehicleparts could spark a fire. Do not drag trailer chains.

  • Be prepared for possible monsoon weather: Stay up to date onforecasts and plan ahead for blowing dust, thunderstorms andrunoff in washes and low areas. "Pull Aside ― Stay Alive."
