No injuries after garage fire in Codorus Township early Saturday morning

No injuries were reported after firefighters battled a working fire in a garage in southern York County early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a reported garage fire in the 2600 block of Wilkens lane in Codorus Township around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, according to York County 911 records.

When they arrived, they found fire showing from the back of a 24-by-24-foot detached garage behind the home, said Porters Volunteer Fire Chief Chris Walker, who held incident command for the incident.

Walker said that no one was injured in the fire, and firefighters from Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company quickly knocked down the flames.

No animals were in the barn, Walker said, and chickens kept behind the garage were not harmed.

The garage mainly contained appliances along with four-wheelers and a lawn mower, Walker said.

The cause of the fire currently appears to be accidental, though a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal will be coming by the scene in the morning to further investigate, Walker said.

Assisting Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company on the scene included Porters Volunteer Fire Company, Friendship Hose Company of Spring Grove, Wellspan EMS, Community Fire Company of Seven Valleys, the County of York Hazardous Materials Team, North Codorus Township Fire Department, Hanover Area Fire & Rescue, and Lineboro Volunteer Fire Department.
