North Jersey man charged with attempted sex assault after alleged mall incident

A New Milford man has been arrested on charges of attempted sexual assault after an incident at The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack on Thursday.

Craig L. Herbert, 30, of New Milford, was charged with attempted sexual assault, criminal restraint, criminal sexual contact and simple assault after an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department, the Prosecutor’s Office said Saturday.

The Hackensack Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on Friday about the alleged incident, which occurred the previous evening.

“An unknown suspect followed the adult female victim into a women’s restroom in the mall, whereupon he shoved the victim to the floor and attempted to sexually assault her,” said a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office.
