North Shore Republicans will reestablish Glendale office for 2024 election

The North Shore Republicans, an affiliate of Wisconsin’s Republican Party based in Milwaukee’s northern suburbs, is establishing a temporary office in Glendale for key, upcoming elections.

The group previously operated out of the office, at 5464 N. Port Washington Road, during the 2020 election and will do so again until the end of 2024, a representative of the group, James Meyer, said at a July 9 Planning and Architectural Review Commission meeting in the city.

At the meeting, the commission unanimously voted to grant the group business occupancy, though it's unclear whether the group intends to occupy the office for the upcoming Republican National Convention July 15-18.

The North Shore Republicans did not respond to several phone calls from the Journal Sentinel, but before the commission, Meyer said the group plans to operate there at least until the end of the year.

According to the North Shore Republicans website, the organization is comprised of GOP supporters residing in Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale, River Hills, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay.

Meyer said the group is sanctioned through the Wisconsin Republican Party and represents its charter. He also said they’d be operating campaigning activities from the office, including canvassing and holding meetings.

Glendale Mayor Bryan Kennedy added that during 2020, the group used the space to conduct phone banking and distribute yard signs.

He also said they may choose to extend their occupancy for the April 1, 2025, Wisconsin Supreme Court election where voters will pick who will fill liberal-leaning Justice Ann Walsh Bradley’s seat after serving for 30 years.

The office, 5,600 square feet, will typically see between 8 to 10 employees with volunteers coming in and out, according to the application filed with the city of Glendale.

The Democratic Party of Wisconsin once held an office nearby in Glendale but does not currently have an office on the North Shore, Kennedy said. Kennedy, a member of the Democratic Party, said the party has still been active in the northern suburbs but have been operating from people’s homes.

The office where the North Shore Republicans will reside had previously served as the base for the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, according to the agenda packet for the meeting.

The building also houses Toppers Pizza, Planet Smoothie, and the mailing service Mail N More.

In June, the chamber obtained approval from the commission to move to a smaller office at 7929 N. Port Washington Road, which shares a property owner with the 5464 N. Port Washington Road building, Worth Realty, according to the agenda packet.
