Northern lights across Kent in pictures

Stargazers in Kent were treated to the sight of the Northern Lights overnight after the biggest solar storm for years.

The lights, also known as aurora borealis, were spotted by onlookers from Reculver Towers to a farm in Tunbridge Wells.

The phenomenon appears as swirling curtains of light ranging from pink, green and purple.

It could be seen after one of the strongest geomagnetic storms for years hit Earth, with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issuing a rare solar storm warning.
