It's not quite a 'Joe Jam': VP Harris' visit to Wilmington snarls traffic Monday

It might not have quite the ring that "Joe Jams" do, but Wilmington residents and employees are getting their first taste of traffic jams early Monday evening with Vice President Kamala Harris in town − just in time for rush hour.

Around 6:30 p.m. Harris left Wilmington and traffic started to normalize.

Harris flew to Delaware Monday afternoon to visit President Joe Biden's campaign headquarters which have quickly been transformed into what Harris is calling "KamalaHQ." While in town, she's expected to meet with campaign staff and visit with the Delaware delegation.

Along Twelfth Street approaching North West Street, the road’s two left lanes are blocked by Harris’ motorcade.

At one point along the stretch, motorists trying to leave downtown Wilmington about 5 p.m. Monday can only use one lane of the four-lane roadway.

The motorcade has several left lanes of 12th Street near Tatnall Street closed as Harris begins to visit and speak with campaign workers a block away.
